RO AI Factory

The RO AI Factory aims to establish a comprehensive national ecosystem for artificial intelligence innovation and adoption in Romania, serving as a catalyst for research excellence, industrial transformation, and societal impact. Beyond building infrastructure, the initiative focuses on delivering advanced, user-orientated AI services that empower researchers, SMEs, start-ups, and public institutions to experiment, collaborate, and innovate using state-of-the-art digital resources. The Factory will offer an integrated portfolio of services, including AI model development and training support, federated data space management, algorithm libraries, and repositories for reusable software assets. Dedicated user assistance, consulting, and mentoring programs will guide organisations in applying AI solutions effectively and responsibly. Complementary capacity-building measures will enhance Romania’s human capital in AI through a National AI Training and Skills Development Programme targeting students, professionals, and policymakers. The RO AI Factory will also run an AI Start-up Accelerator and Incubation Network, providing mentorship, access to expertise, and co-working facilities to foster entrepreneurship and technology transfer. Engagement with SMEs will be a strategic priority, enabling them to integrate AI into products and processes, thus driving competitiveness and sustainability. By working together with Digital Innovation Hubs and European AI networks, the RO AI Factory will promote sharing of knowledge, follow EU guidelines for reliable AI, and spread results widely. Acting as a service-driven platform, it will bridge the gap between research and market deployment, strengthen Romania’s role in the European AI ecosystem, and contribute to a more inclusive and innovation-driven digital Europe.

SENTHICOM - SENse THInk COMmunicate

UTCN will develop an efficient modeling, simulation, and validation environment, as well as augmented applications associated with the processors created by NXP within the IPCEI framework — the first 5nm automotive processor that safely 'super-integrates' dozens of different critical functions within the vehicle and the most advanced processing platform for the next generation of 4D radar solutions.

EURODRIVES

UTCN advances next-generation automotive electronics and intelligent systems with low-power embedded platforms, computer vision for environment understanding (panoptic video segmentation and depth estimation), emerging microelectronics technologies, multi-physics analysis of automotive electronics, integrated circuit design for driver assistance, and hardware-software co-design validated through novel test platforms and procedures.

ASSET-IxC - Automotive Systems Smart Energy-efficient Transducers - Innovation across value Chain

The project delivers energy-efficient intelligent transducers for automotive systems, culminating in a head-up display that projects vehicle status and spatial orientation onto the windshield. UTCN ensures thermal integrity, high-speed performance, and the software foundation of smart transducers and advanced display systems to make them robust, accurate, and ready for integration.

Ro-HydroHub - Romanian Hub for Hydrogen and New Energy Technologies

Ro-HydroHub brings together research and industrial partners to advance hydrogen and new energy technologies. UTCN focuses on fuel cell systems for electric vehicles and hybrid storage units, combining multi-physics modeling, energy management, and large-scale testing infrastructure to accelerate technology transfer and workforce upskilling.

RExQTCS - Romanian Excellence Quantum Technologies enhancing Cybersecurity

The RExQTCS (Romanian Excellence in Quantum Technologies enhancing Cybersecurity) project aims to establish a national center of excellence that integrates leading expertise in quantum technologies and cybersecurity across major Romanian universities. By leveraging strong international research performance and existing infrastructure — most notably the Romanian National Quantum Communication Infrastructure (RoNaQCI), part of the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) — the project seeks to position Romania at the forefront of quantum-secure digital innovation. RExQTCS proposes a comprehensive research and innovation agenda structured around frontier and exploratory research in classical and post-quantum cryptography, quantum technologies, security of enterprise and critical infrastructures, and secure communication protocols for the future quantum internet. The project will address key challenges such as vulnerability to quantum attacks, scalability and security of QKD networks, and the integration of quantum technologies into real-world systems. Interdisciplinary approaches combining cryptography, quantum physics, artificial intelligence, distributed systems, and network security will enable the development of novel, high-impact solutions for critical infrastructures, public administration, and industry. Beyond research, the project emphasizes education, innovation, and societal impact. Through the RExQTCS School, it aims to train a new generation of specialists, producing at least 25 PhD graduates and fostering a sustainable talent pipeline. Strong industry collaboration and technology transfer will accelerate the adoption of quantum-secure solutions, while national awareness programs will promote cybersecurity culture among citizens, institutions, and policymakers. Ultimately, RExQTCS seeks to strengthen Romania's role in the European quantum ecosystem, contributing to secure digital transformation and advancing the development of the future quantum internet.
