The internships offer students the opportunity to explore advanced topics at the intersection of artificial intelligence and 5G communications, under the mentorship of Cristian Patachia-Sultanoiu and Răzvan Mihai from Orange.
The available internships are:
1. B5G/6G Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) This internship addresses emerging concepts in beyond-5G and 6G systems, with a focus on integrated sensing and communications. Students will work with topics such as 5G and IoT networks, virtualization technologies, radar systems, and AI/ML methods for processing radio data for sensing purposes. A possible bachelor’s thesis direction is the implementation or simulation of a B5G system for detecting non-connected objects.
2. 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) This internship focuses on satellite-enabled communications in 5G ecosystems. Students will engage with 5G and IoT networks, LEO/MEO/GEO satellite systems, cellular-satellite Direct-to-Device systems, the NB-IoT NTN standard, and simulation systems for 5G NTN. A possible bachelor’s thesis direction is the implementation or simulation of a 5G NTN system, including D2D, for data transmission via satellite backhaul.
For both internships, applicants are expected to demonstrate problem-solving skills, as well as knowledge of radio propagation and antennas, networking and network architectures, and programming.
