Ladislau “Lotzi” Bölöni is a distinguished researcher in Artificial Intelligence and autonomous systems and a proud alumnus of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca.

He is currently a Professor at the University of Central Florida and Co-Director of the Autonomous Agents Laboratory. His research spans intelligent agents, machine learning, robotics, human-AI interaction, and autonomous systems operating in complex real-world environments. His scientific contributions have had a significant impact on the fields of Artificial Intelligence, multi-agent systems, and cognitive robotics, in strong synergy with the research focus of AIRi@UTCN.

As a visiting researcher at AIRi@UTCN, Prof. Bölöni contributes to strengthening the collaboration between TUCN and the University of Central Florida, with a particular focus on AI and robotics. His ongoing collaboration with TUCN PhD students addresses topics such as robot proprioception and vision-based robot understanding.

This collaboration has already produced promising results, including works presented at the 2026 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, one of the leading international conferences in robotics.

As a TUCN alumnus with an internationally recognized academic career, Prof. Bölöni’s collaboration with AIRi@UTCN is both inspiring and valuable for the institute’s research community. It highlights the importance of long-term international partnerships and of connecting young researchers with leading experts from the global AI and robotics ecosystem.
