Vasile Topa

Vasile Țopa is Rector of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN) and a professor of electrical engineering. His research has focused on electromagnetic field modelling, numerical optimization and the design of electromagnetic devices. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 scientific publications and previously led UTCN’s Applied Electromagnetism Research Centre.

As Rector, he initiated the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, AIRi@UTCN, in 2024. The institute reflects his commitment to strengthening research infrastructure and creating new opportunities for collaboration across disciplines and with external partners
